CAPE TOWN - More than 1,160 people were murdered in the Western Cape between July and September this year.
That's an increase of 114 for the same period last year.

Provincial officials say the murder rate remains a major concern along with cases of sexual assault.
Delft has once again topped the list for the most killings, mainly as a result of gang violence.
It recorded 80 murders between July and September, topping both the provincial and national crime statistics.

The provincial police commissioner says migration to some communities has been a factor, but in Delft parolees are responsible for the high rate.
Crime fighters in Delft say while they appreciate the efforts, they remain concerned about the growing population with limited resources.
