Crime in SA | War on drugs and gangsterism rages on

JOHANNESBURG - Police in Westbury, Eldorado Park, Claremont, Riverlea and surrounding areas have been ramped up following the murder of an alleged gang leader.

Concerns have been raised over possible retaliation and all-out war in these communities.

But Gauteng police commissioner Elias Mawela says law enforcement is on high alert.

"We are all concerned about the ongoing turf war between the gangs operating in that space," Mawela said.

"Everybody is on high alert in case we have revenge killings."

Meanwhile, City Power will be temporarily withdrawing its employees and contractors from Westbury and Claremont due to concerns for their safety.
