JOHANNESBURG - A substation stolen 10 years ago has been found in Lenasia South in Johannesburg.
The owner of the hardware store has now been arrested.
It was discovered during a City Power revenue collection drive on Wednesday.
The 11 kilowatt mini-substation disappeared from the utility’s Booysens premises in 2014.
Records show that at the time, four mini-substations were purchased, but one disappeared without a trace.
Authorities discovered it after a new business requested to be connected to the grid using the mini-sub.
The cost of the substation is estimated at R400,000. They also found a 1 kilometre connecting cable worth R900,000.
