JOHANNESBURG - The Institute for Security Studies is congratulating Senzo Mchunu on his appointment as Police Minister.

It's hoping this will see the police working closely with it.

According to the institute, Mchunu is familiar with evidence-based policy direction and this will provide rigorous oversight at SAPS.

The ISS says in the next six months, Mchunu should issue a clear and bold National Policing Policy aimed at improving police performance, particularly concerning crime intelligence and investigation.

Institute for Security Studies Lizette Lancaster discussed this with eNCA.
