JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police have been confiscating firearms and ammunition and arresting drunk drivers and thieves over the past few days.
Police say over 250 suspects were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in December alone.
Officers have been out and about in the province with their Safer Festive Season campaign.
Meanwhile, Hillbrow residents have been praised for well-behaved New Year's Eve celebrations.
The inner Johannesburg area is known for marking the new year in unruly and often violent ways.
