PIETERMARITZBURG - KZN police spokesperson Jay Naicker says two gunman entered the house in eMbali early in the morning.
They killed 10 people belonging to one family.
The deceased were aged between 15 and 63, and seven of them were female.
It's unclear at this stage what the motive for the murders was.
Naicker said, "according to the community at around 2:00am this morning there was load shedding in the area and they heard gunshots, they did the right thing by calling police immediately...unfortunately police stations are too far, police immediately responded and managed to locate the house even in the dark."
"When they got here the gunman had fled, when they got into the house they found bodies of 10 people, they range from about 15 years old to 63 years of age."
"Seven of them were females and three were males."
Naicker said all the victims died of gunshot wounds.
He then said, "according to the witness which we managed to locate: there were two gunmen. They entered the house and just opened fire on the occupants of the house and they fled immediately afterwards."
