JOHANNESBURG - Atul Gupta is desperate to renew his South African passport because it’s unlikely any other country will give him one.
That’s the view of Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi.
On Friday, the High Court in Johannesburg confirmed Gupta is a fugitive from justice.
The court rejected his legal bid to force the home affairs department to renew his passport.
He remains a South African citizen -- for now.
Members of the controversial Gupta family fled South Africa to Dubai after the so-called Gupta Leaks revealed close, personal partnerships with high-ranking officials.
Key among these is Jacob Zuma, whose nine-year presidency has been blighted by unfettered state capture.
Gupta has refused to return to the country despite warrants of arrest being issued for him and his brother, Rajesh.
