Cosatu plans nationwide protest on Monday

JOHANNESBURG - Cosatu is vowing to paint the country red on Monday, as it prepares for a National Day of Action.

The planned nationwide strike is aimed at highlighting rampant unemployment and the sluggish economy.

The biggest federation of trade unions is demanding a moratorium on retrenchments.

It says it is unacceptable for employers to continue retrenching the few workers with jobs.

Zanele Sabela said, "There are about three million people who need jobs in this country and this includes people who have given up but they still need jobs. We need a moratorium on retrenchment."
