Correctional Services remand 91 Libyan nationals

JOHANNESBURG - The Correctional Services Department has remanded 91 Libyan nationals in custody after 95 appeared in court on Monday.

The Libyans were arrested at a military camp in Mpumalanga.

They claim to be in South Africa for security guard training.

The National Prosecuting Authority is charging them with Contravention of the Immigration Act.

Correctional Services says the detained Libyans will undergo health screening, security assessment, and orientation programmes.

Their next court appearance is 5 August.
