Correctional Services minister unveils plans to tackle SA prison system

JOHANNESBURG - The new Minister of Correctional Services, Pieter Groenewald, has been confronting the state of South African prisons.

In his budget vote speech this week he said that a budget cut of over R2.5 billion will severely impact the department.

Some of the pressing challenges are overcrowded prisons and the monitoring of parolees.
