JOHANNESBURG - Operation Shanela has netted over 13,000 suspects across the country, this week alone.

They include 8 suspected kidnappers in Fourways with over R300-million worth of drugs.

And, two kidnappers in Johannesburg suspected of running a human trafficking ring.

Operation Shanela was launched in May last year to combat crime in high-density areas.

It's run in each province under the leadership of provincial police commissioners.

We discuss this further with Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni.
