JOHANNESBURG - The Constitutional Court has ruled that third parties may access individual taxpayer records if it's in the public interest.
The judgment upholds a High Court ruling that ordered SARS to supply the Financial Mail and AmaBhungane with the tax records of former president Jacob Zuma.
Parliament has 24 days to amend the legislation.
AmaBhungane’s advocacy co-ordinator, Caroline James has welcomed the judgment, saying regardless of who is in power this is a win for transparency.
