JOHANNESBURG - South Africa is in the grips of influenza, and the government says the circulation of the virus is increasing.
The Health Department says cases have been steadily increasing since the last week of April, and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases has received reports of influenza clusters at schools and workplaces.
This is when the influenza detection rate breached the seasonal threshold, and remained on low activity for two consecutive weeks.
This increase in case numbers has been identified in KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Gauteng, Western Cape, Eastern Cape and North West, where surveillance is conducted.
