JOHANNESBURG - City Power is targeting numerous residential estates that owe the municipality millions for electricity.

On Friday, the utility conducted its revenue collection drive in the Hursthill rea.

It cut off electricity supply to at least seven buildings that owe a combined R52-million to the city.

City Power says debtors would have to pay off before reconnecting electricity.

Revenue Enhancement Senior Manager at City Power, Nqobani Mzizi, said the debt book is at R8-billion.

"The accumulation of this just happened over time," he said.

"Admittedly I would say we could have acted quicker."
