JOHANNESBURG - The City of Johannesburg has decided not to appeal the court judgment ruling the city's VIP Risk Management Policy Unconstitutional and unlawful.
In a statement, the City says the decision was made with the intention of providing transparency and clarity regarding the protocol used to approve the policy.
The High Court found that the policy illegally extends benefits for senior officials.
The policy allowed for up to eight bodyguards for the mayor and multiple bodyguards for the speaker and other members of the mayoral committee.
It was adopted in March 2024.
The Democratic Alliance took the matter to court and has welcomed the ruling.
