CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town plans to pay residents for their excess electricity.
By mid-year, residents and businesses in the metro with self-generation capacity will be able to sell power back to the grid.

National Treasury has granted the city exemption from legislation that requires competitive bidding for any purchase.
The city says that within four years it will have enough capacity to counteract at least four stages of rolling blackouts.
