Cape Town mayor: Eskom grid on a knife’s edge

CAPE TOWN - Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis says the power grid is extremely unstable at the moment.

During his first meeting with Minister of Electricity Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, Hill-Lewis detailed steps the City of Cape Town is taking to reduce power cuts by at least four stages over the next three years.

It’s already spent R293-million this year on generators and diesel to prepare for the possibility of grid collapse.

The mayor says the city is doing all in its power to limit blackouts.

He is appealing to people to save electricity by using it sparingly, turning off non-essential appliances and unplugging appliances during power cuts.
