JOHANNESBURG - Cancer is on the rise. Earlier this year, Stats SA released its report on cancer trends for the period spanning 2008 to 2018.

It shows that in the 10 years reviewed, breast cancer deaths increased by over 42-percent while cervical cancer deaths increased by 50-percent.

Those are just two stats in a very alarming raft of information about the hold that cancer has on South Africa.

Salome Meyer from the Cancer Alliance says the handling and treatment of cancer is a big problem in the country.

She said, "cancer deaths has been reported with that alarming increase...cancer deaths in South Africa would have increased....incidents reporting is not reporting the true incidents...looking at StatsSA...report and record data quality....there's many problems with cancer management in South Africa......what we need to understand...how well are you managing your cancer in the country...we are not managing our cancer properly in this country.
