MDANTSANE - Calm has been restored in Mdantsane in the Eastern Cape after a tense stand-off between police and the community.
Police earlier fired warning shots during the standoff.
This was after residents raided scrapyards and other properties in search of cables stolen from Cecilia Makiwane Hospital.
The vandalism caused severe disruptions at the hospital, with only critical areas being operational at present.
The hospital has had to move some of its patients to neighbouring facilities.
