Boksburg Gas Leak | Specialised unit recommended to tackle illegal mining

JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Community Safety is calling for a total eradication of illegal mining in the province.

That's after 17 people, including a 1-year-old baby, died at the Angelo informal settlement in Boksburg, allegedly after Zama Zama's opened a gas canister.

Eleven people, including a 2-month-old baby, are recovering in hospital.

Families affected by the gas leak are pleading for government assistance.

Police say no arrests have been made yet but they think they know who the perpetrators are.
