The Best Escape | Makhotsa’s family believes in his innocence

JOHANNESBURG - He’s innocent and he’s now been dragged into court for doing his job.

Those are the sentiments of the family of accused number seven in the Thabo Bester escape saga.

Former G4S control room operator Tieho Makhotsa is facing charges alongside the convicted rapist.

In an eNCA exclusive, senior reporter Silindelo Masikane sat down with Taylor Makhotsa, the brother of the accused.

"According to the evidence before the court, I see my brother, and we hear that he was in the control room with a certain Natasha, they were in the control room and then they saw the smoke from that position where they were.

"Now I don't believe him to be involved in this thing because he could not be in two places at the same time," he said.

"No, he has not explained that money because when this matter arose he was already in the prison cell, now we could not find time for him to explain that.

"He could not find time to explain that, and we would not want to ask about those things while he's still under their supervision. He could not have done that, maybe on the basis R14,000 that has been seen on his bank statement," Makhotsa said.

"The R14,000 could have been borrowed, we borrow from our colleagues, we are indebted, we always borrow from our colleagues."
