CAPE TOWN - While billions of rand has been lost due to fruitless and wasteful expenditure over the years, Auditor-General Tsakani Maluleke says previous compliance and accountability lacks are slowly improving.
In the 2022/23 Public Finance Management Act report, 266 material irregularities on non-compliance and suspected fraud resulted in a financial loss of about R14-billion -- a fraction of which has been recovered.
Maluleke says threats against her staff have also not stopped.
