JOHANNESBURG - The state of the country's municipalities continues to deteriorate according to the latest audit report, by the Auditor General Tsakani Maluleke.
The report reveals that only 38 of the country's 257 municipalities received clean audits.
Maluleke blames this on political instability.
She said, "It was a bleak picture last week, we were at pains to remind the nation that most of the municipalities were characterised by instability, brought on by the local government elections, which brought on significant change at the political leadership and that led to instability."
"What that report tells us is that we have yet to invest in strong administrations that are strong enough, stable enough, reliable enough to withstand the pressures that come with political events."
