Assassination attempt on Fort Hare VC

JOHANNESBURG - Universities SA is shocked by the apparent assassination attempt on Fort Hare University's Vice-Chancellor.

Shots were fired at Sakhela Buhlungu's vehicle outside his home on Friday night.

His bodyguard Mboneli Vesele was gunned down in the incident.

''The board of universities of SA is deeply saddened by this act and condemns it," said Phethiwe Matutu.

"There are issues pertaining to the university, SIU is investigating a number of universities on tenders and fraudulent issuing of qualifications."
