JOHANNESBURG - Michael Markovitz from the Gibs Media Leadership Think Tank and a former SABC board member says the president should not be praised for this appointment as the damage is already done.
"We have to note that the SABC was already operating in breach of the Public Finance Management Act," he says.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has finally appointed a new board of directors to the SABC, but it could be a little too late.
The public broadcaster has been operating without a board for months, since the term of the previous directors expired.
NGO Media Monitoring Africa raised the alarm, saying not having a board was putting the SABC at risk.
"I will say the announcement comes as relief," says Markovitz.
