JOHANNESBURG - Civil Rights NGO, Amnesty International, has condemned the barring of media from the Wits protests.
The NGO says watching the security guards manhandling journalists was disconcerting.

Amnesty International's Mienke Steytler said, "we were extremely concerned when we saw that, we were watching this live and thought we had to react to this."
"There is a right to assembly… Press freedom is important and media should be allowed in campus to be able to document events."
"We were concerned.. I would love to know what the university was thinking when they asked the media to leave…. In our view, it’s completely unacceptable.”
