JOHANNESBURG - The 11th SA Aids Conference kicked off in Durban against the backdrop of alarming HIV infection numbers.
Approximately 1,300 young people in KwaZulu-Natal are contracting the virus every week, according to recent statistics.
The South African National Aids Council promotes the involvement of society in the fight against HIV.
They revealed that the majority of these new infections per week in KZN occur among young people aged 15 to 24.
This year's conference is taking place amid concerns that the surge in infections, is a result of the government's shift in focus towards COVID-19.
