CAPE TOWN - Three men from Soweto appeared in the Cape Town Magistrates court on charges of kidnapping and extortion.
The victim was attacked at an Air BnB in Woodstock, Cape Town on Friday.
Swift action by a multi-disciplinary kidnapping task team led to the arrest of the men.
The trio are believed to be part of a wider syndicate operating across South Africa, targeting especially those using the Grinder dating App.
Mlungisi Mbutu, Bongani Zulu and Zwelakhe Ngwenya all from Soweto made their first appearance in the Cape Town Magistrates Court.
The kidnapping and extortion charges stem from a man who was held against his will inside an air BnB.
At 7 PM on Friday, the Hawks received information about the incident.
Access was gained to the house and the hostage was discovered tied up in the main bedroom.
The suspects were arrested while attempting to flee the house.
It appears they had rented the Air BnB on a short-term basis.
Locals praised the swift police action. More charges are expected to be added.
