JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Education Department plans to build 2,300 more classrooms.
The department has already processed 271,000 applications for Grades 1 and 8 next year.
But there is still a shortage of classrooms in the province.

"We have set up a plan and this is what is in motion now. there is something happening on the ground in terms of increasing the capacity for learners to be placed," said Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane.
"We have two programmes that we are running strongly, building new schools, completing schools that were incomplete.
"We have a very successful programme of self-built and also mobiles.
"These are construction works that are currently taking place to ensure that we create enough capacity."
