JOHANNESBURG - Monday marked the first day of exams for matric candidates across the country.
Almost 900,000 candidates will be writing over the next few weeks.

Basic Education spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga says the first day ran smoothly.
"We have not received any response from provinces that should worry us," he said.
