2024 by-elections | MK Party win in Marikana

JOHANNESBURG - By-elections have been happening across the country.

The MK Party has beaten the EFF and ANC in Ward 45 in Rustenburg, while the DA will win the most votes in a number of Johannesburg districts.

In  Marikana in Rustenburg, the MK Party received 43% of votes cast, compared to 33% for the ANC and 23% for the EFF.

The Democratic Alliance showed its dominance in Joburg's park suburbs, winning 96% of votes cast in ward 89 -  Constantia Kloof and Weltevreden Park, and 83% of votes in Ward 87 -  Greenside and Parkview.

There was a shock for the DA in eThekwini, where independent community activist Andrew Akkers secured 43% of the vote, relegating the DA to fourth place behind MK and the ANC.
