2022 Matric exams | SADTU not joining wage strike

JOHANNESBURG - With public servants likely to embark on a national strike this week, members of the South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) will not be putting down the chalk.

SADTU spokesperson Xolani Fakude says the matric class of 2022 cannot afford more disruptions.

They've already suffered disruptions due to Covid-19 lockdowns and some of the worst rolling blackouts the country has experienced.

Meanwhile, unions are giving government one last chance to meet their 6.5 percent wage demand.

That's the word from Denosa president, Simon Hlungwani.

Government workers are threatening to strike after rejecting a 3 percent salary increase.

Numerous trade unions are picketing on Monday as a conciliation hearing takes place at the Public Service Co-ordinating Bargaining Council.
