DURBAN - More than two years on, KwaZulu-Natal residents still feel the effects of the 2021 July unrest.
More than people died in the unrest that took place in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
The unrest initially started as a result of the imprisonment of former president Jacob Zuma.
But it quickly turned into a looting spree, where businesses were destroyed while thieves made off with appliances and food.
Shopping centres were destroyed, jobs were lost and economic damage totalled over R50-billion.
Some small business owners say the destruction forced them to stop operating.
Many residents say they're hopeful that the violence seen two years ago, isn't repeated.
