2 off-duty Despatch police officers arrested after street brawl

DESPATCH - Two off-duty police officers were arrested in Despatch on Friday.

This is after they were seen beating up a taxi driver.

It is alleged that the K-word was used and shots were fired during the altercation.

According to witness, Phumile Ruiters, on Tuesday he and his colleagues saw the two officers beating up a homeless person.

When they arrived to intervene, things turned south and Ruiters says things could have turned sour if private security officers had not arrived.

The two men were released on R1,000 bail each and a case of attempted murder and the unlawful discharge of a firearm in a public place has been opened for investigation.
