19-year-old Kuils River man to appear in court for alleged assault of grandmother

JOHANNESBURG - A 19-year-old man will appear in the Kuils River Magistrate's Court Friday morning.

He was arrested after a video of him allegedly assaulting his grandmother went viral on social media.

He was cuffed on Thursday in the informal settlement of Wallecedene in Kraaifontein.

Police followed up on the matter following outrage on social media with users calling for his arrest.

The elderly woman was traced to a hospital, but she declined to make a statement, forcing police to open a docket on her behalf.

Investigators say the incident took place in July, however, family members refused police help.
