This follows public outrage over the deaths of children linked to illicit and expired food sold at spaza shops.
The campaign will focus on Midrand and Soweto, with plans to expand across all seven of the city's regions.
Public Safety MMC, Dr Mgcini Tshwaku, closed 13 non-compliant spaza shops in Braamfontein.
Tshwaku discussed the closure of these shops and the campaign with eNCA.
