JOHANNESBURG - Government says it is monitoring reported tensions among scientists at a remote base in Antarctica.
South Africa is the only African nation that operates a research base in the frozen far south of the world.
A nine-member team sailed from Cape Town on 1 February for a mission that is mean to last about 13 months.
One of the team members reported that another had physically assaulted and threatened to kill a colleague.
The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment manages the Sanae Antarctic Research Base.
It says that a full investigation is being commissioned and it is monitoring the situation closely.
