JOHANNESBURG - The residents of Alexandra need land.
Community activist Linda Twala says Alexandra was originally intended to accommodate only 60,000, but over one million people now live in the densely populated township.
This rapid and unplanned population growth puts immense pressure on its infrastructure.
"We are living in such appalling conditions not because we want to, but because we need land," he said.
Without land there's nothing that we can do here. To de-densify Alexandra we need more land."
