JOHANNESBURG - South Africa's Ambassador to the United States, Ebrahim Rasool, has been expelled.

The Presidency says the expulsion is regrettable and is urging diplomatic decorum.

It says the country remains committed to a mutually beneficial relationship with the US.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio lambasted Rasool for comments made on a webinar.

He slammed him as a 'race-baiting politician' who is no longer welcome in the country.

Rasool made comments on US foreign policy and the Make America Great Again movement.

He was part of a panel discussing foreign policy hosted by the Mapungubwe Institute for Strategic Reflection.
