Sewage floods Makhaza homes after pipe burst

CAPE TOWN - Forty families in Makhaza’s Wetland informal settlement in Cape Town are homeless after their structures were flooded with sewage.

Two sewage lines burst during repairs to a main sewer pipe leading to the Zandvlei wastewater treatment works earlier this week.

Affected families are calling on local officials to relocate them after losing their possessions.

The City’s water and sanitation directorate says teams are working to resolve the issue.
