JOHANNNESBURG - Seven cases of diphtheria have been confirmed at the Pollsmoor Correctional Centre in the Western Cape.
The Correctional Services Department says a total of 44 prisoners are currently in isolation.
Contact-tracing has begun, with individuals who may have been exposed to the infected inmates being identified.
The department says it has implemented robust prevention and control measures to curb the potential spread of the bacterial disease.
