JOHANNESBURG - Seasoned investigators have been brought in to help track down those responsible for the deaths of eight women whose bodies have been discovered in Ekurhuleni over the past two months.
Police have established a high-level multidisciplinary investigations team as the probe continues, while authorities warn against speculation and unverified claims circulating on social media.
Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia says investigators have the experience and expertise needed to deal with multiple murder cases.
“At this stage, it’s premature to speculate on patterns. These appear to be quite distinct, separate events. But at this point, it would be unhelpful to speculate,” Cachalia said.

Authorities currently believe the murders are not connected, although investigations are continuing.
A R400,000 reward has been offered for information that could help police make progress in the investigation.
Police will also increase their visibility in Kempton Park and surrounding areas through Operation Shanela, as efforts to identify those responsible intensify.
Police are appealing to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
