KRAAIFONTEIN - A principal from Kraaifontein in the Western Cape was shot dead outside school grounds.
The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday morning.
According to Western Cape police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk, three unidentified men opened fire on the 54-year-old and a female passenger.

"At about 7am, two persons stopped at the entrance of an institute of learning at Henzikile Street, Walacedene, in their white Mahindra vehicle.
"Three unidentified males approached the vehicle and opened fire at them, which led to the death of a 54-year-old male and an injured female who was admitted to hospital," Van Wyk said.
Police the suspects fled the scene in an unknown vehicle.

Meanwhile South African Teacher's Union (Sadtu) secretary Sbongile Kwazi said they were devastated by the incident adding that their call for a safe haven in schools has not been heeded to.
