JOHANNESBURG - The deadline for Sassa beneficiaries to swop their gold cards for black Postbank ones has been extended to 20 March.
This was announced on Friday in a joint press release by the Ministers of Communications and Digital Technologies, Solly Malatsi, and Social Development Nokuzola Tolashe.
The Sassa Gold Cards were initially set to stop working on the 28th of February.
We have listened to the deep concerns and frustrations of our social grant beneficiaries and we trust that this extension will provide much-needed time for grant recipients," the statement read.
The statement also said that the departments and its entities are working together to increase the number of personnel working on this conversion process. Theyre also working with retailers like Checkers, Usave, Boxer, Pick n Pay and Shoprite to increase the number of processing sites across the country.
Recipients, particularly the elderly, say they are concerned about the length of time they have to wait in the queue before they can be assisted.
"According to the statement , Mobile offices will also be dispatched to focus on rural areas and to ensure that as many people are assisted as possible.
