PORT EDWARD - If it's a long weekend in South Africa, there's every chance road fatalities will increase.
A bus carrying IFP supporters overturned in Vryheid, north of KwaZulu-Natal, leaving 22 people injured, three of them critical.
In addition to the Vryheid bus crash, three people died in a crash involving four vehicles in Port Edward on the south coast of the province.
Authorities are investigating these accidents and are flagging driver behaviour and speeding, as possible causes.
The province is in a race against time to repair many roads damaged by the floods, including certain stretches of the N3 highway, before another influx of holidaymakers.
