SA’s porous borders | At least 11,000 border guards needed

JOHANNESBURG - The Border Management Authority does not have enough personnel and resources to stop illegal border crossings effectively.

That’s according to its commissioner, Mike Masiapato.

He says the BMA has borrowed drones from the Agriculture Department to survey the border this festive season.

The BMA has 600 border guards, but Masiapato says it needs at least 11,000.
