SAA pilots ‘work-to-rule’ over pay turbulence

JOHANNESBURG - SAA is allaying fears of delayed flights as pilots embark on 'work-to-rule’ industrial action.

It says contingency plans are in place to limit disruptions.

Salary negotiations between the national carrier and unions have deadlocked.

SAA is offering a three-year package which includes a longevity salary model for pilots.

The initial increase will be 7.66 percent followed by 3 percent in 2025 and 2026.

But, the SAA Pilots Association and National Transport Movement are demanding 15.7 percent.

The airline says it's navigating financial pressures of high fuel prices, a weak rand and intense competition.

It says its offer is fair and generous.
