JOHANNESBURG - Sexual misconduct claims against Advocate Jeremy Gauntlett have been referred to the Johannesburg Society of Advocates and the Cape Bar for investigation.
Gauntlett is accused of sexually abusing Wits lecturer Hylton White when he was a teenager.
The General Council of the Bar is deeply concerned by the allegations.
But, being a federal organisation, the claims will be probed by the regional bodies.
Gauntlett has since quit an Anglican Church panel inquiry probing sexual abuse of children in the church.
Cape Town Archbishop Thabo Makgoba has accepted the senior counsel's decision to step down.
