Prepaid electricity meters | Cost of power as thousands scramble to meet deadline

JOHANNESBURG - Eskom faces financial losses from zero-buyers.

They are those who have connected to the grid without paying the power utility to do so.

One of the spinoffs of the prepaid electricity meter upgrade is that customers will be forced to buy electricity from recognised vendors.

This should help the bulk supplier in its due diligence.

But thousands are still scrambling to meet Sunday’s deadline to update their software.

While Eskom has committed to extended hours over the weekend, it maintains it will not be postponing Sunday's deadline for the Key Revision Number 2 upgrade.
