Opening of Parliament debate | Police Minister vows to tackle crime head-on

CAPE TOWN - Police Minister Senzo Mchunu says those plans to fight crime are already in place.

He says modern technology will be deployed to hotspots.

The minister will be visiting Hanover Park in the Western Cape on Saturday as gang violence there surges.

This week, President Cyril Ramaphosa told the nation there are plans to deploy modern technology to assist crime fighting.

It's a data-driven approach which will be used to identify violent crime hotspots and inform the allocation of policing resources alongside prevention measures.

Mchunu says their plans will start in the Western Cape's gang-infested areas.
